A KiezelPay alternative for Garmin watch apps: WearCheckout vs KiezelPay

Updated 23 October 2026

WearCheckout is a KiezelPay alternative that charges a yearly plan from $9 instead of 27% of each sale, and pays you through your own Stripe or PayPal account. On a $4.99 sale you keep $4.55 with WearCheckout and $3.64 with KiezelPay. KiezelPay's real strength is that it handles sales tax and VAT for you. With WearCheckout, you are the seller and handle tax yourself.

How much does KiezelPay take from a sale?

KiezelPay takes 27% of each sale, with a minimum of $0.27. It says a card payment costs it about $0.30 more than PayPal. You choose whether you or the buyer pays that $0.30.

$4.99$1.35$3.64$0.44$4.55

27% of $2.99 is $0.81, and 27% of $4.99 is $1.35. For WearCheckout we use Stripe's US card rate, 2.9% + 30¢: $0.09 + $0.30 = $0.39, and $0.14 + $0.30 = $0.44. If a KiezelPay buyer pays by card and you absorb the $0.30, you keep $1.88 and $3.34 instead. The examples assume a US buyer, before sales tax.

What does a year of sales cost?

At 1,000 sales of $4.99, KiezelPay takes $1,350 and WearCheckout costs $528.80.

  • KiezelPay: 1,000 × $1.35 = $1,350. You keep $3,640.
  • WearCheckout, Starter plan: Stripe takes 1,000 × $0.44 = $440. The plan is $9 and includes $1,000 of sales. 2% of the other $3,990 is $79.80. In all, $528.80. You keep $4,461.20.

Each $4.99 sale costs $0.91 less with WearCheckout: $1.35 against $0.44. So the $9 Starter plan has paid for itself by the 10th sale of the year. The home page's fee comparison shows larger years.

What does KiezelPay do better?

  • Tax. KiezelPay handles sales tax, including the EU's VAT rules. With WearCheckout, tax on your sales is yours to charge, report and pay.
  • Nothing to pay up front. KiezelPay costs nothing to start. WearCheckout is free in test mode, and its plan starts when your first app goes live.
  • A long track record. KiezelPay has sold watch apps since 2016, first on Pebble, and it has a Garmin library.
  • No processor account. You only need a verified PayPal account to be paid.

What does WearCheckout do differently?

  • The buyer types nothing. They scan the watch's QR code and pay with Apple Pay, Google Pay, a card or PayPal. The watch unlocks within about a second.
  • The money is yours from the start. Buyers pay into your own account. WearCheckout never holds it, and your processor pays you on its own schedule.
  • More ways to sell. One-time purchases, subscriptions, free trials, time-limited passes and offers.
  • You control refunds. Refund in your processor, and the watch locks again at its next check.
  • Wide reach. Every watch on Connect IQ 3.0 or newer, 127 models, with the watch and checkout in 8 languages.

Can I move my KiezelPay buyers to WearCheckout?

Yes, and buyers who paid don't pay again. Give WearCheckout your app's KiezelPay ID, and it asks KiezelPay whether each watch has paid. A watch that paid stays unlocked, with nothing for the buyer to do. You confirm that your agreement with KiezelPay allows this check. You can also import past payments, or unlock every watch that asks before a date you set.

What does WearCheckout need from you?

  • Your own Stripe or PayPal account. Polar, Razorpay for India and Paystack for Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and South Africa also work.
  • Garmin's trader verification, and a store listing marked as needing payment.
  • A support email, and links to your terms, refund policy and privacy notice.
  • You are the seller. Sales tax, VAT and buyer support are yours. See plans and fees for what each plan includes.
