How do WearCheckout and PayToUse compare?
They differ most in where the money goes and how a buyer unlocks. We make WearCheckout, and every PayToUse fact here links to PayToUse's public developer manual.
| WearCheckout | PayToUse | |
|---|---|---|
| Fee per sale | 0% on sales your plan covers, then 2% | 13%, after the payment fee |
| Fixed cost | $9, $99 or $299 a year | None in its manual |
| Payment fees | Your processor's, such as Stripe US at 2.9% + 30¢ | Stripe from 2.9% + $0.30, PayPal from 3.4% + $0.30, Robokassa from 3.9% |
| Where the money goes | Your own processor account | To PayToUse; you request a withdrawal |
| When you are paid | On your processor's schedule | Monthly, says its home page; its manual says each payment can be withdrawn 7 days after it is made |
| How the buyer pays | Scans a QR code on the watch and pays; the watch unlocks by itself | Scans a QR code or enters the watch's code on its payment page; the app unlocks by itself within minutes, or the buyer types the code into its settings |
| Subscriptions | Yes, on Pro and Studio | Codes for a set term |
| Free trials | Yes, up to 30 days | Yes |
| Face builder without code | No | Yes, for Connect IQ 4 and newer |

How much does PayToUse take from a sale?
PayToUse takes the payment system's fee first, then 13% of the rest.
| Sale | PayToUse fees | You keep | WearCheckout fee | You keep |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $2.99 | $0.73 | $2.26 | $0.39 | $2.60 |
| $4.99 | $1.03 | $3.96 | $0.44 | $4.55 |
Checked 23 October 2026, on each company's own pages (see Sources).
Both examples use Stripe's US card rate, 2.9% + 30¢, for a US buyer before sales tax. On $4.99, Stripe takes $0.14 + $0.30 = $0.44. That leaves $4.55, and 13% of it is $0.59, so PayToUse's fees come to $1.03. On $2.99, Stripe takes $0.09 + $0.30 = $0.39. That leaves $2.60, and 13% of it is $0.34, so the fees come to $0.73. With WearCheckout, only Stripe's fee comes off while your sales stay inside your plan.
What does a year of sales cost?
At 1,000 sales of $4.99, PayToUse costs $1,030 and WearCheckout costs $528.80.
- Card fees are the same on both: 1,000 × $0.44 = $440.
- PayToUse adds 1,000 × $0.59 = $590. In all, $1,030. You keep $3,960.
- WearCheckout's Starter plan adds $9, plus 2% of the $3,990 above its included $1,000, which is $79.80. In all, $528.80. You keep $4,461.20.
Starter's $9 costs less than PayToUse's 13% from the 16th sale of $4.99 in a year. The home page's fee comparison shows larger years.
What does PayToUse do better?
- A face designer. You place elements on each watch model's screen, choose which are paid, and download a ready file for the Connect IQ Store. You write no code.
- A public manual. Every setting, API answer and fee is on one public page, so you can judge it before signing up.
- No yearly fee. Neither its manual nor its home page lists one.
What does WearCheckout do differently?
- The money never passes through us. Buyers pay into your own account, and your processor pays you. With PayToUse, payments collect in your PayToUse balance until you withdraw them.
- Nothing to keep. An app unlocks about a second after the buyer pays. The purchase belongs to the watch, so there is no code to keep or restore.
- Real subscriptions. Monthly or yearly prices that renew, besides one-time purchases, trials, passes and offers.
- Every watch on Connect IQ 3.0 or newer. That is 127 models, for apps, watch faces and data fields.
Can I move my PayToUse buyers to WearCheckout?
Yes, and buyers who paid don't pay again. Give WearCheckout your app's ID at PayToUse, and it asks PayToUse whether each watch has paid. A watch that paid stays unlocked, with nothing for the buyer to do. You confirm that your agreement with PayToUse allows this check. You can also import past payments, or unlock every watch that asks before a date you set.
What does WearCheckout need from you?
- Your own Stripe or PayPal account. Polar, Razorpay for India and Paystack for Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and South Africa also work.
- Garmin's trader verification, and a store listing marked as needing payment.
- A support email, and links to your terms, refund policy and privacy notice.
- You are the seller. Sales tax, VAT and buyer support are yours. See the plans and the FAQ.
