The watch screens

The library draws every payment screen for you. Our server sends each one ready to draw, in the watch's language and your color, so a wording fix needs no app update.

The buy screen

What a locked app shows. From top to bottom:

  • The title, in your color: "Premium" (or your own word, such as "Pro"), or the trial's state.
  • The QR code, half the screen wide, black on a white square with a margin, so a phone's camera finds it on a black watch.
  • "Scan with phone" under the code.
  • START's mark on the bezel, beside the button.
  • A problem line at the bottom, only when there is one.
TitleWhen
PremiumNo trial, or your own word for it
7 days leftIn the trial: the whole days left
Last dayThe trial's last day
Trial overThe trial has ended

START on the buy screen shows the link as text, for a buyer whose camera won't read the code: "Type on phone:", the address, and the watch's code in large type, in your color. BACK goes back to the QR code.

The watch's code is also how you find a buyer's watch in your dashboard's Watches and Sales.

Finish on your phone

Once the buyer opens the checkout, the watch shows a ring with a check and "Finish on your phone". If the watch then loses its link to us, it shows the QR code again, since the buyer may have closed the page.

The unlock

About a second after the payment goes through, the buy screen plays the unlock. It takes about 1.5 seconds:

  1. A thick arc sweeps round the screen's edge while a big check draws in the middle.
  2. As the check lands, the watch plays its success tone and buzzes, if it has them on.
  3. The arc swells and fades. The check shrinks and glides up into its ring.
  4. "Premium unlocked" (or "Pro unlocked") and your lines on what Premium adds rise in.
  • Paid while the buy screen was closed? The unlock opens by itself as soon as the watch hears of it.
  • Opened again later, the screen shows the last frame, with no replay.
  • A canceled subscription adds a line with the day it ends, such as "Ends on 12 Nov".

When something's wrong

LineWhat it means
Loading…The buy screen is waiting for its first answer.
OfflineNo phone, Bluetooth or internet. The watch keeps trying.
Try laterOur server didn't answer properly. The watch keeps trying.
  • The tries slow down. After a failed try, the watch waits 2, 4, 8 and up to 32 seconds before the next.
  • Never a black screen. With no answer to show at all (the very first open, offline), the screen shows your app's name, the problem line and "BACK to close".

The time limit

The buy screen closes itself after 5 minutes without a change, or 15 minutes while the checkout is open on the phone (someone may be typing card details). Then it stops asking, so it never drains the battery. If it closed while its tries were failing, the next start of the app asks again: the payment may have landed meanwhile.

The buttons

ButtonBefore payingOnce paid
STARTSwitches between the QR code and the linkCarries on into your app
BACKFrom the link: back to the code. Otherwise: leaves the buy screen (a locked gate app closes)Carries on into your app

The buy screen reacts to presses only. Holding a button too long opens the watch's own menu, and its release never arrives.

Colors

  • Every screen is drawn on black, day or night. Text is white, quieter lines gray, and the title, the check and the watch's code use your color.
  • Watches show 64 colors: each of red, green and blue is 00, 55, AA or FF. Pick any color in your dashboard and we use the nearest.
  • Never 555555 for text. The Forerunner 55 has 8 colors and draws it black.

Screen shapes

  • Round screens: each line gets the width the circle has at its height.
  • Square and rectangular screens: each line gets the full width. The Venu Sq counts as a rectangle.
  • Instinct and other watches with a subscreen: the QR code sits left of the subscreen, where its pixels can't hide cells. The library finds the subscreen at run time, so there's nothing to set.
  • Lines that don't fit drop a font size, then are cut with ".". We measure every line in every language with each watch's own fonts, so they fit.

Your words on the screens

In your app's Pricing tab you set what the paid part is called ("Premium", or your own word, up to 12 characters) and what Premium adds (short lines: a line on the watch fits about 24 characters). The Pricing tab shows the buy screen and the unlocked screen as you type. Languages are on Add the library.
